Enabling Ligatures: Microsoft Word for Windows, Microsoft Word 2010 and 2013

  • Launch your copy of Word
  • Open the Font dialogue box by pressing ‘Ctrl+D’
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Set the menu next to Ligatures to “All”
  • Under OpenType Features (above the preview at the bottom), check the box “Use contextual alternatives”
  • Click “Set As Default”, check the box “All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?” then click OK
  • Select the required Aussie School Fonts Plus font from your Font menu and start typing

Converting older format Word documents

Only newer versions of the Microsoft Word file format support ligatures so to user older Word documents you will first have to convert them to .docx format. This is a simple process. You’ll know if your Word document is of the older type as “Compatibility Mode” will display in the title bar at the top of your document.
