- After the install has finished, a D-Link Window will pop-up, this will display the current IP address assigned to this camera and also the MAC Address of the camera. After reveiwing the information in the middle, click on the Wizard button located on the left hand side of the window.

Webcam/Messaging Software Setup
Setting up External Network Camera(In our example I am using a D-Link Secure Cam)
- The first step is to insert the CD that came with the webcam into the CD-ROM drive. If the CD Autorun function does not automatically start on your computer, click Windows Start >My Computer> Choose CD located under D: Drive. This should start the software installation wizard.
- On the left hand side, choose Setup Wizard
- Click on Next to continue
- Click Yes to accept the License Agreement
- To start the installation choose Next. If you would like to change the destination folder, you may click on the link labeled Browse.
- Once the nstall is finished, click on Finish.
- After the install has finished, a D-Link Window will pop-up, this will display the current IP address assigned to this camera and also the MAC Address of the camera. After reveiwing the information in the middle, click on the Wizard button located on the left hand side of the window.
- This next screen will ask you to change the User ID and Password for the camera, it is a good idea to always change the password, as changin the User ID is not a necessity. (Default UN and PW for these specific d-link devices are adminwith password left blank.
- Next we can choose whether our camera will get a new IP address each time the camera boots up (DHCP) or you can select a static IP. A Static IP is ideal for checking the camera from a remote location. If you use DHCP and the camera reboots without you knowing it, the IP will change and you will have no way of knowing what it is.
- REMEMBER... When assigning a static IP for the camera, it has to be on the same network as your home network. To make sure what network IP to set for your camera, run an ipconfig in windows to determine what network you are on.
- Once you have choosen either DHCP or Static IP and have entered in all appropriate information, click on Next at the bottom right. If you are using a Static IP, please make sure that the IP address you enter here is on the same network...ie 192.168.16.XXX (Preferabbly outside the router's DHCP Lease Range so NO IP conflicts will occur)
- The next screen that appears will allow you to use the WPS or Standard Wireless Settings to connect to your router. If your wireless connection does not have any security set up on it, you will want to go ahead and use the WPS method. If the router has any security set up on it, you will want to choose Standard Wireless Settings then click Next.
Standard Wireless Settings:
- Enable wireless settings and enter your wireless network information. Select your wireless security settings and click Next.
- Check to make sure the Network Name or SSID matches the network you wish to connect up to.
- Once all information is accurate, click Next.
- Located at the bottom of the window there is a place to enter your WPA or WPA2 Pre-Shared Key. Once you have entered in this appropriate information, click Next.
- Verify all settings once more, then choose Restart. This will reboot your camera, after it reboots, a window should pop up displaying your new IP address associated with the MAC address of the camera.
- You are now ready to view your camera via a web page. The web page you browse to is the same IP address that either you assigned manually via a static IP, or the DHCP IP address. Ours is 192.168.16.128
Setting up Logitech Webcam
- Most of the time if you are hooking up a Logitech or any other Webcam, once you plug the device into your computer via a USB cable, it will try to install all the necessary drivers it needs. It will do this process automatically. If you plug your webcam into your computer and your computer is not recognizing the device, you can go to the manufacturer website and download and install the software that is needed. I got my software from http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/support_downloads/downloads/webcams/&cl=us,en.
- In Windows XP, if you want to check to make sure your webcam is working properly, simply click on My Computer whether its located in start menu or on your desktop. You should see under the heading Scanners and Cameras a USB Video Device, double click on the device to see your webcam. If it is working properly, you should see video.
- In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the features to check to make sure your camera is working properly are not as easy as in Windows XP. To check to see if your webcam is working properly in Vista and 7, you will need to navigate to the control panel then choose either Devices and Printers in Windows 7 or in Vista you will HAVE to download a third party software to test the webcam.
Using Webcam for Instant Messaging
- If your webcam has been installed and is ready to use, using it to communicate over a web messaging program such and Windows Live Messenger should be a fairly easy process.
- To start this process, open Windows Live Messenger.
- With the messager program open, to start a video chat with another friend, simply click on their contact to open a new message to that person, then click on the Video link at the top of the window.
- If your messanger program does not pick up that you have a webcam installed on your computer, and you know it is installed, click on the Tools Menu, then choose Audio and Video Setup.
- The setup wizard should now be displayed, it will first go over all the audio options for your machine, these should already be configured correctly. Click Next.
- A drop down menu is located near the top of the window, this will display what webcam is being used. If none are displayed here, make sure your webcam is plugged into your computer via a USB cable and try again. You may need to check the drop down menu just in case your webcam is installed but not the default device.
- You need Windows® 2000, XP, Vista or 7 to run Skype.
- If you do not already have Skype installed on your machine, you may get it here: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/
- Skype will now download and Install itself onto your computer, once that is finished, you will need to create a Skype ID if you do not already have one.
- Skype is a very easy messaging program to use, once the program is open, you may add new contacts to start video chatting with people. To do this, simply click on the New drop down menu, then choose New Contact.
- Once you have your contact added, you may start a call or a video call with your new contact, to do so simply click on the Green Buttons in the middle of the window.

- If for some reason when you start a video chat and your webcam is not working properly, you can check and change certain settings. To do this click on Tools at the top, then choose Options.
- On the left hand side you will have the option to choose Video Settings. Within Video Settings, you can choose who you will be able to share audio and video with. Once you have selected who you can share with, click on Save at the bottom.
